$240 ticket! they just try to get you no matter what

August 28th, 2008 at 05:43 am

Today DH drove me to work and on the way back got stopped by the police. got $240!!!! ticket for windows being too tinted. What the.... we did not tint it - we bought this car used and never imagined....

Frown

few days ago we got another stupid ticket - DH did not put new registration sticker on and it expired in the middle of August (it had 08 08 in big letters so we did not notice). He had already renewed the registration, and the new sticker was in the glove compartment.
I guess we should have paid more attention *sigh* and this one is our fault.

But the tint thing.... we had no idea, never had a warning... no clue - when you buy a car you assume it is tinted to the regulation. They get you for everything. And the fines are huge. We were late by 2 minutes! to the meter - $120 ticket. I hate this city.

Sorry to hear about your tinting ticket. Next time you buy a used car, I'd suggest stopping by the police station and asking them nicely to check the windows for you. Most would be happy to do so.

Don't forget to actually defend yourself against these charges. It's an interesting experience, and could pay off.

yeah you could probably look into it. it's worth it if it just takes some time on the phone or net researching info. you might be able to get out of the fine on a warning.

Yikes! At the beginning of August I got a parking ticket for $35. The thing that ticked me off the most is I was downtown at our church VOLUNTEERING to teach Vacation Bible School-some thanks that ticket was!

Well if you drive your car to a glass shop to get the windows replaced, you could get another ticket on the way there, I guess. You are supposed to get new glass? Hey, my eyes are very sensitive to light and I am eligible to get a waiver to the glass tinting law in my area if I have a doctor's prescription. Perhaps you are or someone in your family is eligible for the waiver.

Well, you've got 2 tickets that I think are worth fighting... but you'll have to trek to the court house.

The tinting, you can tell the magistrate your situation about buying it used like that, and if you remove the tinting, they might let you go or at least take it easy on you.

    Same for the registration.

No guarantees though, but even if they don't let it go, you might be able to negotiate a lesser charge. In our court house, they usually offer that up front so you don't even have to sit and wait to speak with a magistrate (unless you really want to).

I would fight both tickets. In regards to the registration, you usually have 10 days after the expiration date to renew and if you take it to court and show proof you had it then usually at least here in FL I think you pay $7
