How much space do you really need?

Just saw this on Yahoo, featuring 78ft and 90ft New York apartments.

Yep, it is all relative.

I love how much attention small-space living is getting these days, because in nonurban spaces there was this push to go mega-size for many years. I think a lot of people find this stuff refreshing after all the crazy consumption and unaffordable luxuries of the past decade.

I know my family could live in half of what we have (950 square feet). I like having the extra room though, for entertaining, cooking, and my family's crafts activities and big record and DVD collections.

I could also see getting a bigger place someday, but I recognize that as a luxury that we will only get if we can afford without neglecting any of the more important financial aspects of our life.

I have no idea how many square feet our house is but I know it's a lot, I think the builder said it was about 2000. I also know we have managed to fill it with stuff!
