Dave Ramsey really aggravates me lately!

October 10th, 2011 at 07:55 pm

Why do I listen if I don't like him?

Simple -- there is just not enough financial reality shows that glimpse into the financial situation of ordinary people. So I listen for the calls, those tiny financial snapshot of random people all over the country, their lives and problems.

But lately there have been less and less calls and more and more political rants and non-stop self-promotion. I mean really, stop spending like 15 minutes each show advertizing yourself! That is just too much by any standards.

Suzie orman is also aggrivating to no end, don't even get me started, "girlfriend". But I don't know other financial shows with regular people call-ins.

Ok, now my rant is over.

I just fast forward through that stuff - I really like his show. & yeah, I haven't found anything else to listen to. I enjoy this mutual fund show that is local, but that is about. The rest is so boring. (Even the mutual fund show is a big advertisement, but I just tune that crap out).

I should clarify that I listen to the edited sown podcasts online, after the fact. So I can skip all the commercials and everything.

I like the money shows on NPR.

I do find the self-promotion a bit annoying but I realize that he is in business. The podcast, ultimately, is just a means to promote his system, his classes, his seminars, his books, etc. He isn't doing this out of the goodness of his heart. He's doing it to make money.

I'd love to find a show similar in nature but without all of the advertising, but then who would pay for it?

perhaps with the economy being so bad, people ARE actually saving more and being a little more financially savvy, and he is finding it tough to sell his advice? Big Grin

That would be good, whitestripe, but based on the callers, I think people are just as clueless as always.

I think what is more likely is that more and more people are listening to the free podcast (that's what I listen to). If you want the full show without commercials, you have to pay. He is probably just trying to make the free podcast less attractive to encourage people to pay for the commercial-free version. For a while, they were actually having a commercial override the beginning of a call so that when they went back to the show, you didn't know what was going on since you had missed the story. That was even more annoying.

I'm with My English Castle - I enjoy the Marketplace Money podcast on personal finance and the daily 30 min show. I like Planet Money and some of the shows that were done in conjunction with This American Life.

I stopped listening to him years ago. I can't stand the political rants. I want to hear financial advice. I don't really care to hear his political opinions, especially when he's so angry about it.

I listen to NPR most of the day. Love it.
