Saved $29.75. Not sure it was worth it.

I decided to be a domestic hero today. Upon coming home at 8:20, I gathered all the shirts I could find in 2 minutes and run to the loundry. Had it washed by 9. Then it took me 3 hours to iron 7 of them.

I started to regret it. I did it because I got tired of paying $4.50 per shirt. And I like to wear fitted designer shirts like Anne Fontaine, Tahari, Theory. But to pay $4.50 every time I walk out the door? Seems nuts.

But to spend so much time and efford...
Saved 7x4.5 - 1.75 for the washer.
I am not sure what is the best solution here.

I am by myself today, DH is coming back tomorrow from a business trip.

    Well, you improve with time, so that 3 hours will eventually dwindle down to an acceptable level. Think of it as an initial investment. Maybe you should start out with 1 or 2 shirts each time instead of 7 all at once.

    When I do a big ironing, I do it while I watch tv, and then I don't feel like I'm wasting my time. Of course, you could always pay yourself to iron...

    I agree with robex about doing the ironing while watching TV. It also makes the time go by faster.

    I actually like to iron. I also iron while watching tv or listening to talk radio. Four seventy-five a shirt? Wow!
    I should pay myself that much every time I iron one of DH's shirts! He wears a dress shirt to work every day.
    I'm going to be rich!!!

    i iron while i watch tv before bed. twice a week for an hour, and i am much faster now than i was originally.

    At $4.50 a piece I'd try something else too! Like switching over to synthetics that you can hang to dry and won't wrinkle so much so that when you do iron them the time spent will be minimal. Or adding washable knits to your wardrobe.

    Or maybe investing in a clothes steamer, instead.
