Found money

December 7th, 2008 at 01:50 am

Found $20 on the Subway yesterday. There was no one looking for it so I did not know what to do. I stood there for few min holding it visibly... If there was a reasonable chance of finding the owner I would not keep it. As there wasn't, I kept it, but it did not feel so good. I still wonder if I did an unethical thing. Should I have given it to the MTA guy?

Retailers are slashing prices. I called Ralph Lauren customer service and got a $70 adjustment for something I ordered a week ago. They did not adjust the price but promised to refund the difference after the order goes through. Don't know why they have to do it that way. I'll have to keep it in mind and follow up.

I also saw a waffle maker I recently bought selling for $30 less at Costco. So I bought that one and will return the other one to the store. Luckily I did not open it yet.

So it is $120 less for outgo.

I wouldn't worry about the $20. Cash is finders-keepers. There is no way to return it. You can't just shout out, "Did anyone lose this $20 bill?" Unless you see the person drop it or see someone frantically looking around as if they lost something, it's yours, free and clear.

Great job on the price adjustment and waffle maker. Those were good deals.

Finders KEepers - exactly what I thought.

But I understand. We found $20-$30 at the gas station on the ground. I felt bad someone dropped it, but what can you do?

Great find! Don't feel bad. If someone there had lost it, they would have spoken up.

I have found cash before and it makes you feel bad someone lost it. There is just no way to find the rightful owner though - unfortunately!

Lucky you, $20! You couldn't have done more to find the person who dropped it, so I agree with the others. Finders Keepers.

Great find with the waffle maker

Unless you saw it drop, the floor owned the 20$ when you picked it up. If you feel karmically challenged about it, find someone clearly struggling, then casually drop it and ask them if they dropped it. Grocery line is perfect.

You are lucky like my sister's partner is lucky. She found a US Grant 50$ bill less than a block from the house when I was visiting.
