$2,000 traffic ticket :(

March 8th, 2007 at 05:08 pm

Got a ticket, first one in our driving life. For "disobeying the stop sign".
(not coming to a complete stop -- just slowing down, looking and moving on)

That day cops were just out to get on a mission -- I saw 4 cars being pulled over in a five minute ride from the highway to our house. I never saw this before.

The most frustraing thing is how much it will cost us overall. With absolutely clean record our insurance on a 7 year old car (with $2000 deductible) is about $400 A MONTH! We entered new information while getting a quote, and with one moving violation it will go up to $500!!! dollars a month, for the next 18 months.

This is such a harsh punishment for such a minor offence. Feels very unfair.

way harsh! did you get a court date? if so, show up b/c the odds are good the ticketing officer won't. in that case, there's a good chance you can have the ticket dismissed or the charges reduced. in a situation like this, you might try for a fine and no points (which means it wouldn't get reported to your insurance company). good luck!

You know I got pulled over when I Was last pregnant, by a woman nonetheless, and I had NO IDEA why. I think she was really far away and thought I didn't yield in this one intersection which is my PET pEEVE because it is by my work, I pass it at least twice every day, people don't yield on the left turn like they should. I just assume everyone is an idiot and won't yield - how I have avoided an accident. But the cops I guess were havily patrolling it - because there are so many accidents over there.

So yes the cops target certain intersections, and they team up sometimes.

The cop must have thought I Was an idiot. I Was so lost as to why she pulled me over. LOL. Said I didn't yield and was reckless - what was my hurry. I said I Was in the slow lane in no hurry but I did have to merge on to the freeway from a short on-ramp - hell yeah I gunned it - I have a 4 cylinder - LOL. She felt bad for my pregnant state I guess and let me go. Perfect record probably helped. I choke to think you can get $2k for something so stupid though. IT could have been her word against mine, & a $2k fine??? YIKES!!!!!

Did you actually come to a complete stop or not? If you did, I'd definitely fight the ticket. Was anyone in the car with you as a witness? That would help, too.

I'm having a hard time understanding why with a previously clean driving record and a Huge deductible why the premium was $400 a month to begin with. That is extremely high in my opinion.

DH totalled a car a couple years ago and it resulted in a $50 a month increase.

Is $400 a month typical in your area? This is absolutely mind boggling to me. I don't think I'd be able to afford a car payment and insurance if it was that high for me.

yep make sure you fight it. A cop pulled me over once said I was speeding well little did he know I just took my car to the shop because I was having trouble going more than 30-40 miles anyway when I asked him how fast I was going he could not tell me so I took it to court, guess what he did not have a raidar so it was my word against his and it was thrown out

in CA you can attend traffic school so it wil never even show up pn your record, can you do that where you are? Also, first tickets and long license, your insurance may not go up as much as you think it will. in CA you need a certain number of points or a bad record

You should run a rate quote from Progressive Direct. I switched to them after having an accident myself and being told that it would save me quite a bit of money by a relative.
