I wanted a beautiful embroidered Sferra duvet cover and matching pillowcases. They were very expensive. I sat on it for a few month - to make sure I really want them.
They are never really on sale (the ones that I like) and sales on that type of things are not drastic anyway.
So I found the cheapest price (which was still difficult to swallow). It was from an independent online retailer. They had a field for a coupon code, yet I could not find one on the web - retailer is not big enough.
So I emailed them, complementing their selection and telling them how I liked the set but it was a little over my budget and that a coupon code would help.
They responded within a day with the 10% off code. So I saved $54 with a 30 second email. And I finally got a set I really wanted, not a "compromise" one. So now I will stop buying bedding.
I negotiated with online store!

I furnish(not the best word for bedding but I don't know a better one) one thing at a time. One-two expensive items a month.
I changed my strategy - how it worked before is I would look at this set and want it, but instead of getting it I would go to linensource or pottery barn sales section and get a cheaper one. However, I would still want the original one. So the cheaper ones were just a waste of money and space. I was buying junk.
Now I have only 3 sets and I like all of them.

funny, i don't spend that much on sheets, but i love luxury towels in a particular style which regularly cost up to $70 each. (of course, i wait til they are on sale and then ask for a better price at myer. i get them usually for around $30-$40)

Did you know Lowe's employees are able to give 10% off at their discretion (without manager help)? I got it once for a school project purchase.
Did you ever ask at ToysRUs? I just did and got 10% off a ping pong table purchase because the box had chewing gum on it and grossed me out (they scraped it off anyway).
ASK!
