February spending tracking results

March 2nd, 2009 at 02:31 am

It was a very difficult month emotionally, but I'm trying to get back to normal.

These are the totals. While I tried very hard and did save a lot of money on discretional things like clothing for me (we only bought a Brooks brothers suit and 2 pairs of pants for DH on sale), eating out, lunches at work, etc... And most of this eating out was emergency-related. I found out there is such thing.

We also spent less on gas and tolls due to DH's work travel and days off we took off work... But we spent a lot of month for necessities: help to family and we pre-paid car insurance for 6 months.

How many cars do you insure for $1400 or is this for a year? I got a tick last month $91 my mom gave me $40 to help pay for it. What's triple play? Your dining out expense is really high

Amber, it is for 6 months, not for a year. Bare bones liability insurance only, 10 year old paid-for sedan, one "rolling stop" ticket on record, 26 year old driver, excellent credit.
We used to pay $390 a month - with fresh driver license and no ticket on record yet.
Now, after 3 years we are paying $1,400 for 6 month - lowest price we ever paid.

People who say it is expensive just have no idea what it costs to drive a car in NYC.

I think you did well considering you helped family and you live in the Big Apple. I'm in northern NJ and we pay a bundle for car insurance and property taxes are high. I think Triple Play is pretty cheap considering what you get. Keep trying. If I may suggest a category to cut down on is the eating out.

Triple play is a package that includes 3 things:
    family cable package
    cable internet
    home phone
