This is how I am thinking of decorating my bedroom.

March 8th, 2010 at 08:57 pm

We are finally closing this week! On Wed!
So now I need to furnish the place to live in. Furniture I have now is a hand-me down mismached and old, and is not worth the cost to transport.

But I have a limited budget. And need to make something nice that I will like for years. But I don't have so much money to work with.

So here are my ideas, I would love some feedback:

This is the plan of the bedroom:

This is the photo of the bedroom from the listing:

I plan to do 1 wall in wallpaper (the one against which the headboard is leaning).
This wallpaper. White parts is shiny and blue is matt. I have the sample in hand, it is quite nice.

And to paint the other 3 walls with the BLUE/teal color matched exactly to the flower on this wall paper. Leave white trim and moldings.

Have white curtains. I wish I could find nice white flexible curtains that don't let much light through. I did not see any so far.

And furnish the room with this white furniture:

with 2 identical lamps on white nightstans. Something like that:

I am not a designer, so I don't know if walls of that blue/green color will work well in this context.
Will I get tired of it quickly?
Any comments/suggestions? What would you do with this space?

I think it'll be gorgeous. I happen to love that shade of blue (which I call turquoise). I like the 3rd lamp a lot, too.

Congratulations on your new home! The color scheme is lovely.

Very nice and light and airy.

I have black furniture, mud walls (actually Taos Taupe from Benjamin Moore) with white trim and white curtains. Then my bedspread is a white and black print. But I am drawn to blue.....

our bedroom is quite similar to what you are thinking of doing - i should post a picture one day Smile I love the idea of the wallpaper. Our walls are all white all through the house, we chose that to show off the timber floors, and also because we have a lot of art.

I love what you've picked. You could also add a more "manly" accent color like a taupe/brown to temper the femininity. JMO ...

directed@anonymous comment: unless you're going to be buying a racing car bed, i fail to see how or why you need to make it manly - the colours you are using are blue and white, for gods sake!

Update: I completely changed my mind about the style of the bedroom (not that I thought it was too feminine - DH is masculine enough not to interfere in the decorating process). But I saw that bedroom set in person, and it was flimsy. The drawers did not even have tracks! Talk about cheap.

So instead I chose Crate and Barrel Linea bedroom collection:

untreated solid teak, no veneer, very natural and neutral. With neutral beige rug, curtains, and green/blue calming paint. Kind of "natural oasis" feel. The bedroom was painted already, furniture is on backorder until mid may. And for the first time in my life I have enough space to have a king bed. I can't wait until it comes.
I bought double drapery rod from Pottery Barn (expensive) and will probably buy JW Marriott bedding (I need all new bedding since I got a king bed and all my bedding is queen).
Comforter... I don't know. Does anybody have experience with Pottery barn comforters? Or is there a better one for no more than $350?
