OMG - gorgeous Japanese pearl jewelry. I wish I was rich!

May 26th, 2012 at 03:36 am

I'm researching pearls, as I really want to pick up something in Japan of nice value to enjoy and keep in the family to pass down. Japanese pearls are really high quality, but the jewelry is also artistic and imaginative, unlike pearl jewelry I see here.

I can't afford or justify this piece, but I just wanted to share it with you:

!
amazing

These are "transformer" jewelry - they can be worn several different ways and fit beautifully and so perfectly. I have a Japanese friend that has this one:

another example.

I love the concept.

Creative and beautiful:

I have my eye on this one:

It does not obligate you to an evening gown, it can be worn with most outfits and I think it is lovely.

So intricate and delicate...

All of these are Tasaki, another famous Japanese brand. I want to see these in person in Tasaki flagship store in Tokyo. I'll also go to Mikimoto Pearl Island where Mikimoto pears are produced and sold at the best price. But I know I will see so much beauty I can't take home. It is like visiting a museum in a way. These things are art.

Which one do you think is the most beautiful?

I love them all, but the last piece you pictured really brings out the beauty of Japan to me. The blossoms, the pearls, stunning without needing to be over the top.

Photos one & 10 would be my choices. Are they fresh water or saltwater? I wish I'd taken time to buy pearls [from Japan] available for reasonable costs in Thailand. Pearls come in so many different levels of quality. It so hard to feel secure that what you're buying is what they say it is unless you've studied gems.

The design of the setting and quality of products & workmanship is so complex. Would you wear jewelry designed in the 30's? How do you know family would like what you selected 30, 60, 80 years in the future?

Snafu, they are salt water. Unlike buying in the rest of the world, buying pearls in Japan you can be reasonably secure buying pearls, especially from a reputable store. Pearl industry in Japan is very heavily regulated. And buying pearls from a Mikimoto or Tasaki store is as secure as you can get.

Would I wear jewelry designed in 30's? I do wear a pearl necklace I got from my great aunt. It is Mikimoto, and she bought it in Japan before my mom was even born.

4/5 and 9 are my favorites, and it sounds like this will lead to a great trip for you! I think you are right, buying the pearls in Japan is about the best insurance for quality and security that you could have. Enjoy yourself and let us know what you find!

    Hi!
I stumbled across this post via pinterest. I would really love more information regarding the very first necklace in this set. It's a silvery grey pearl with an almost crescent moon shaped net of silver and diamonds. Could you share with me who the designer is? Thanks!
