Bus stop ads.

February 10th, 2014 at 10:20 pm

I've snapped few pictures of ads I see on bus stops around the city. Tells you something about how different NYC is:

I put few more on my blog:

Where else do airlines advertise first class services at bus stops?

Funny! But we do have the occasional designer-clothing or exotic-vacation ad in our bus shelters too. I guess they think, since it faces outward, it will catch the eye of more than us broke and/or uberfrugal bus riders.

CJ, you are missing the point - bus riders here are not riding the bus because they are broke.

And ads on the inside(which some of the ones I posted are) are not that much different.

I get what you mean, people with money ride the bus in NY. Yep, you wouldn't see those here...not that jewelry isn't advertised because it is.

Oh, I see. Well, regardless, we have similar ads in Minneapolis.

It just makes sense. If you are making up to 300K, the cost of owning a car can be proportionally significant. Parking is an issue. Sure, you can pay $250-1000 per garage space at home, but you also need to park where you are going. And even if you are willing to shell out $40-60 to park at a garage for the day, it is not like you can just come and go. Or get your car out instantly. It is not like in other cities where you can just pull into a spot in a garage and leave. There are rows of cars to maximize the space and part attendants move the cars to stack more.

And sure, you can get a taxi off peak with no problem, but you can't count on it in rush hour, or when the weather is unpleasant. And there is traffic (buses have bus lanes). So when you really need to be somewhere on time, public transportation can be a better option.

We have a car, and when we go out, we always use it, because we are more flexible and can be late. When I go to work, taking a car is just not worth it.
