Craigslist people.

Frustrating.

People seem to think that used furniture is of such high value that it is non-negotiable.

I found one coffee table that was suitable for a DIY project, the seller wanted $60. I wrote that if they can do $40, I can pick up right away. Reply "no thanks". No counter, or conversations, just a reply that invites no other communication. OK.
(I think I'm being reasonable by negotiating BEFORE I arrange to go to their house, so not to waste anyone's time).

So I see this guy trying to sell that coffee table over and over for now 3 months. One would think he will realize by now it is not priced right, but no. Got the same reply.

I see better and cheaper ones out there, but unfortunately they require driving to Long Island or Ct, which I don't really want to do for something like that.

Also, the amount of people who think their stuff is "vintage" is incredible.
Vintage or not, I don't see the value in these:

Mid-century modern holds its value. Those aren't out-of-line prices, if they have the paperwork to substantiate, or distinguishable markings.

And if the owner of the table has $60 in his mind for his table and won't budge. He doesn't have to.

I have Sciope Rinca Irish dance dresses out of Ireland. Used. And people not in the ID arena would think they are overpriced. But, some things hold their value and I know what my bottom line and is I don't need to budge because someone will pay what I want. Not sure when.

I would have thought that after continuously posting it for 3 months straight and not managing to sell it, that he would be less arrogant.

If you believe you have a serious buyer that is willing to come and pick it up right now and the only sticking point is the price, one can 1) explain why you are sticking to your price 2) Give a token discount as a show of willing to meet the buyer.

Both strategies leave the door open to the buyer to come back if the buyer still wants the item.

Wife of deacon, is there an amount of time after which you will re-evaluate price on what you are trying to sell? A year or more? With internet and global shipping ease of the modern era, could you buy a brand new one out of Ireland for only a 25-30% more?

You have to know the market. Sciope Rinca only produces "x" amount of dresses per year - and not at only 25-30% more. The prices that people pay for those dresses brand new are the most elite (my girls are elite, but not elite to that degree) and compete at Worlds, and maybe Australia's version. I have an extremely old dress that we're keeping for sentimental value. It happens to have Lilly Pulitzer fabric on it, and since the passing of LP, the value has GONE UP. I am not relying on simply craigslist to sell me dresses. There are online venues (danceagain.org) that deal exclusively with ID dresses. I've never had to wait an excessive period of time to sell any Sciope Rinca dress that one of my girls has worn simply because it is a Sciope Rinca. See my point?
