How much do you think this apartment cost?

March 11th, 2014 at 10:06 pm

Sometimes I daydream about getting a 2br in Manhattan so I occasionally browse the listings just to see where the prices are going (always UP).

How much would a coop 2br apartment like this cost in your area?

Well I live in Sacramento, California so a 2 bedroom condo/townhouse (not a coop) in Downtown central area runs 400-500k for about 14-1600 SF.

I know, because I have been looking at them. I'd love to live in an area where I can walk to stores, restaurants, movies, grocery, farmers markets, etc. but the cost is to high when I can buy a 2500 sf house in the suburbs for less.

I'd guess that in Manhattan runs 900k+? And I know I am on the low side I am sure.

I figure $ 5 M in NY. You haven't mentioned sf but here in the Rockies new build, 2 db/2bth, 800 - 900 sf about $ 120K which includes wire cage flr to ceiling storage bin, outdoor, dedicated parking slot [indoor costs extra] no concierge service, no doorman. Old bldg. excellent location 1K sf, updated kitchen & bthrms, underground, dedicated parking, about double.

    In Hong Kong a closet costs $ 1 M.

Where I live that would be (in a downtown location) $250-$300k. I know in NYC it's quadruple that or higher!

Around here, downtown, that would be about $150k.

Plus you have those extraordinary monthly fees on top of the purchase price.

Downtown - 2 bedroom - varies widely... I just found one for $625,000 and another for $1.6 million (for context - downtown is pretty posh - our teeny tiny version of Manhattan with lots of tourists and fancy shops; you can get houses in the suburbs for much less).

PS - I feel blessed that I have a downtown office - it's great to be here; our landlord is awesome and only charges us $700/month; I end up paying $330 a month for my portion of the office.

So I'm curious what that NY apt. is?

This is one of the cheapest ones - and, as you can see from this super old kitchen. It is 1M. PLUS, $2,300 monthly maintenance.
