Not packing lunch - guilty.

Why? Because the food available is good and very varied. It is not Subway or Cheesecake factory, it is food I like and evidently there are so many people with similar tastes, they are catered to on every corner.

Today was a dental check-up day. So I left work earlier to make it to my appointment. Picked up lunch on the way - 1 taco carnito near Union Square. Ingredients were fresh and good, though I prefer a flour tortilla. $5.

I also treated myself to a smoothie at an all organic eatery "Hu Kitchen" right next to my dentist's office.

There are so many of these fresh smoothies/juice places, you can pass 5 and the 6th one will get you.

I needed a "pick me up" sugar rush before the stress of the dental chair, so I went for "The Green Nebula" - kale, apple, kiwi cashew cream and coconut water and a "crack bar" for later ($13.24). So that, together with one and a half doughnuts this morning and a nougat ice cream bar, brought number of sugar calories to the level of excessive. Got to do better tomorrow! Does the thought of going to the dentist impact all good judgement?

After an uneventful but still impossibly long appointment I somehow wondered into Bebe(don't know why, I never shop there) that was on my way. I tried on a bunch of clothing and ended up buying this dress, on huge sale, for only $41. You can't see it on the picture, but the fabric is nice, and so is the color. Did I need it? No. I went in hoping to find a day dress that could double as a salsa dance dress and a day dress. This was not it. But I liked it, the price was right, and I will enjoy wearing it to a date night this summer.

And another takeout meal for dinner - husband is away on business, my son is at grandma's today, so no cooking for me). I still had noodle/vegetable/tofu leftover dish in the fridge that I could have eaten, but after the massive carbfest earlier I was craving veggies and hummus.

It was fresh and tasty kale salad ($10.89).

When you don't want to cook, you can find tasty options everywhere. When you are tired, and it is right there - you are on foot walking past them, smelling them, it is much more tempting.

meh on food but WOWSA you do score really good clothing deals. Great dress for $41. Dresses not at Bebe cost more and they are hard to find. I give up most of the time.

You can pack lunches like that. I've done it where it looks like it came from a restaurant. I should do more of a food blog.

BUT my secret sin is my favorite blogs to read have always been fashion ones on deals. There were two I loved looking at the deals they scored. They closed off but ohhh the clothes. And one in particular was what to buy to keep. If only. But MochiandMacaroons started a new blog on fashion since she sold her old and I still read it. She still puts the BEST clothes and deals. If you love deals watch her.

Your food pictures always amaze me. No joke, I have never seen most of the dishes you eat, in real life. Embarrassment I have never ate kale or hummus. I live in the simple midwest, and dinner here means things like mac n cheese, meatball sandwiches, or spaghetti. Your food is always so beautiful, and healthy. Smile

Thank you Klarose. We are foodies, so eating healthy is a challenge - it has to taste good too.

It does seem counter intuitive - wouldn't you be closer to fresh produce in midwest?

Mac or spaghetti, rice, bread, are all simple carbs, which are treated by the body exactly the same way as sugar, so I don't view them as food, more like indulgence, an equivalent of a cake or a doughnut. So I would rather eat a piece of cake - more enjoyable. Eating pasta as a meal will take a lot more calories to get full, the sugar gets released very quickly, and if unused it immediately gets converted to fat, and as sugar levels would also drop quickly, I would be soon hungry again and feel like eating something else. And they lack nutrition and fiber. So maintaining a healthy weight eating those types of foods on a regular basis would be like constantly fighting with your own body.

So I try to eat well so that I can eat really badly occasionally. I love healthy foods, but I also love doughnuts, bbq, fried korean pancakes, cream-filled pastries, and oooh GOOD CHEESE and alcohol. So to indulge in those I try to be reasonable the rest of the time.

Maybe I will post a recipe or two here sometime.
